Monday is a very important day in the month of Sawan. This day is dedicated to Lord Shiva in Hindu religion. Devotees observe Monday’s fast on this day and offer prayers to Lord Shiva. Devotees anoint the Shivling on Mondays of Sawan and decorate it with incense, lamps, flowers etc.

In the month of Sawan, on Mondays, devotees chant the name of Shiva and worship him. Many people visit Shiva temples in this month and ask for their wishes there. This month is called Sawan because in this month the Moon is present in Taurus and the Sawan Nakshatra is also visible.

It is believed that fasting on Sawan Mondays pleases Lord Shiva and all the wishes of the fasting person are fulfilled. By doing this the devotee gets mental, physical and spiritual strength. This fast is started on the first Monday of the month of Sawan and ends on the last Monday of the month of Sawan.

People observing Sawan Somvar Vrat strengthen their devotion to God further and receive the blessings of Shiva. This fast gives peace, happiness and prosperity to all devotees. During the Sawan Somvar fast, the fasting person should observe fast and listening to Sawan music is also considered auspicious.
